Borders of Blackness: Diaspora via the Indian Ocean is a performative auto-ethnographic multimedia work which explores questions of racial, ethnic, and cultural identity using the Tanzanian side of my multinational family as a case study. Through methods grounded in ethnography and oral history, I focus on my Punjabi Indian grandmother weaving her reflections with my poetic musings to narrate ways in which I process my own blackness. Through dance, I embody cultural and ancestral knowledge as well as how the specificities of geographic locations create a multiplicity of Black diasporic experiences.
